ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Today we will work hard on our scenes! Your group's goal should be to have a finalized script by the end of the hour. Please be sure it includes stage directions and is nearly error free. We will begin rehearsing lines today. Here are your tasks:
Today we will finish reviewing the practice test for Unit 6. Then we will turn our attention toward our group work. We will continue writing our scripts today. Your goal should be to finish the dialogue and begin adding in stage directions (see the original text for a model).
Remember, every group member must have at least 3 spoken lines. Today we will begin with a portion of the Unit 6 practice test. Remember, this test is scheduled for Friday.
Next we will continue work on our Blame Game written response. Once you get your draft typed on your iPad, begin working through this checklist to be sure you have all necessary components:
Toward the end of the hour, you will be placed in your scene groups for our final project. Once you get into your groups, we'll begin brainstorming "themes" for you to incorporate into your scene. Today we will begin with a short grammar lesson focusing on fragments. Then we will begin work on our "Blame Game" writing assessment. Below are the specific directions for this task.
The Blame Game Essay After brainstorming the characters who have some fault when it comes to the tragic outcome of this play, you will select one main idea to expand into a 3-paragraph response. Because we are currently working on identifying/correcting run-on sentences and fragments, you will strive to have your essay completely free of them both. Your response will include an introduction, a well-developed body paragraph with textual evidence, and a conclusion. Use the outline below to help you visualize it: Intro
Today we'll begin by completing the "Blame Game" writing assignment. When you finish, you may take out your silent reading book.
Next we will begin our work on Unit 6--Recognizing the Sentence Unit. This unit will be short and is mostly review, but there ARE some tricky pieces that we'll work through together. Plan on taking this test next week Friday, May 25. Today we are going to read a few scenes of Romeo and Juliet together before getting into our silent reading books. We will be finishing the play in class tomorrow.
Today we'll read scenes 2 and 3 of Act 4 together. Then we'll watch some of the film version. I'll also ask you today for some feedback about how this play is going for you. I'll be using this to create your groups for part of the Romeo and Juliet anchor.
With the rest of the hour, we'll enjoy some reading time. Today we'll begin with about 10 minutes of silent reading time. Then we'll get back to the play. We'll finish 4.1 and create a time line that shows the days of the week (the play begins on Sunday). Finally, we'll read 4.2 together. If time allows, we may watch a portion of the film.
Today I will collect your reading calendars from April. We will also take a trip to the library and begin filling in our calendars for May. When we return, we'll fill out recommendation slips to post on our bulletin board and get into our books for a while.
We will also read Act IV, Scene 1 together in class. Continue filling in your packet with summaries from each scene. |
